About us
Heterogeneity of flow fields in the unsaturated zone is the prime target of the soil physics group. We analyze the mobility of nutrients, pesticides, contaminants and specific tracers on the field and laboratory scale and describe their displacement with models. We investe considerable capacities on improving the measuring and interpretation techniques to the field-scale requirements.
We apply these methods to come up with some answers to burning environmental or mangement issues such as
- physical degradation of soils
- phosphorus export from agricultural land,
- N-loading of forest soils,
- groundwater contamination,
- snow melt runoff in a warming alpine climate,
- water movement and solute migration in the soil cover of waste disposal sites as well as in rock formations.
